HEAD COACH
This will be Greg's first season as Head Coach after six seasons as Defensive Coordinator following six seasons as defensive line coach. During his tenure as defensive cordinator, the Aztecs won 72% of their games and four consecutive Sunset league Championships 2005 - 2008 and advanced to the Div. 1 Finals in 2005. Greg is a graduate of Sonora High School where he lettered in football, wrestling, and track & field. He received his B.A. degree from Whittier College where he also played defensive tackle on the football team for four years. He is also a Club level certified Olympic Weightlifting Coach. He runs the Aztec strength program with Bill Pendleton. This is Greg's thirteenth season with the Aztecs. In the off season, he runs Advantage football for youth athletes. He is well known for the attacking Aztec defense. Greg teaches science and physical education, works with the school technology needs and lives with his wife Chi and daughter, Taylor, 6, and son, Logan 3 in Yorba Linda.
QUARTERBACKS
This will be Jack's seventh season coaching with the Aztecs. He coaches the quarterbacks and helps with the offensive spotting from the pressbox. Jack attended UCSB where he ran track. He and his wife, Kathy live in Yorba Linda. They have two sons, Sean, 19, a captain on last year's football team, and Todd ,17 a senior captain on this year's team. He has coached many years of youth sports.
DEFENSIVE BACKS
Ryan was a member of the 1997 Aztec football Sunset League Championship team as a linebacker and running back. He graduted from the University of Arizona where he was a football grad assistant. He has coached with the Aztecs for 6 years. He and his wife Timaree live in Yorba Linda.
GUARDS & CENTERS JV OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
Frank played Center at Valencia High School. He played on a C.I.F. Championship team in 1992. He has coached many years of freshman football, golf, track and soccer and is also an English teacher at Esperanza High School. Frank will be assisting Coach Pendleton with the offensive line for the sixth year. He will also be the JV offensive coordinator. He also assists in the weightroom and with the shot and discus throwers in track. Frank also assists in the weightroom and is in charge of the JV offensive line. Frank lives in Huntington Beach.
DEFENSIVE LINE
Mike played for Esperanza High School and was an All C.I.F. tackle on the 1982 Empire League Championship team that advanced to the CIF Finals at the Big A. After graduating he moved on to USC where he played one year before transferring to Fullerton College where he was named a Junior college All American. He finished his college career at San Diego State where his team won the WAC Championship his junior year. He signed with the New Orleans Saints, but a stress fracture ended his playing career. Mike teaches Special Education. This will be Mike's 15th year coaching with the Aztecs. He has also coached at Villa Park, El Dorado, and was a defensive coordinator at El Modena. His wife Shawn, a principal at Fairmont Elementary School is a past female athlete of the year at Esperanza. They live in Yorba Linda with their sons Cody, 12, and Cory 7.
LINEBACKERS JV DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR
Tommy was an All League linebacker and running back on the 2001 and 2002 Aztec football teams. He also played at Santa Ana Junior College and at Humboldt State. He was also a shot putter and discus thrower on the track team and an outstanding weightlifter. He is working on his teaching credential. This will be his second season coaching the Aztecs. He lives in Yorba Linda.
DEFENSIVE BACKS
Chris Wright is a graduate of Hart High School. He was a running back on a C.I.F. champion football team. He is also Hart's all-time hits leader with 121. He graduated in 1998 after a three-year varsity career in which he hit .460 with 10 home runs and 86 RBIs and went on to become a four-year starter for the nationally ranked 49er baseball team where he compiled 260 hits and a .320 average.He later played in the Golden Baseball League, an independent professional league for several seasons. He received a degree in communications from Long Beach State in 2003. He was a freshman football coach at St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower and a part-time varsity hitting and outfield coach in 2005. This will be his second year coaching football and teaching English
OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
This will be Jeoff's first year as offensive coordinator. Jeoff was an All League Fullback and Linebacker on the 1988 and 1989 Aztec teams as well as team captain. He was also a thrower on the track team. This is Jeoff's 15th season coaching the Aztecs usually coaching the running backs. He was the Head Coach at Saddleback High School where theyadvanced to the CIF SemiFinals in 2004. He graduated from National Universit and has a credential in Health and Special Education. He and his wife Carrie live in Yorba Linda with their sons Ben (7) and Nathan (4).



This will be Bill's 34th season at Esperanza coaching and teaching English. He was Def. Coordinator for 18 years and Head Coach from 2003-2008 finishing with a 53 - 20 record, winning four straight league championships, and the 2005 team advancing to the CIF Division 1 Finals for the first time in school history. At Gahr High School he was Athlete of the Year. At Idaho State Un. where he played football, he was Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the school and for the Big Sky Conference. He is a Senior Level Olympic Weightlifting coach. He coaches the weightmen in track and has coached a national champion, 2 state champions and 14 CIF champions. He and his wife Debbie live in Yorba Linda. His family includes sons, Travis ( a former Aztec and West Point graduate in the Army); Jake, a fomer Aztec football player, and daughter, Carolyn.


JV DEFENSIVE LINE
Coach Martinez is a graduate of Los Altos High School where he played football. He played college football at Cal Lutheran. He has also coached at Laguna Beach High School, El Modena High School, and Servite High School. This will be his first year coaching with the Aztecs. His son, Brody, is a sophomore on the JV team.
